You might power a laptop with a LPSU but observe that all the different voltages needed in a PC are generated by switchers.
This makes me wonder if a LPS makes sense.
Powering a laptop by its own battery might have surprising results.
The power saving schema might actually make thing worse.
At least this happened once to me

Traditional protocols like SPDIF slave the DAC to the source.
A asynchronous USB decouples the timing from DAC and source.
In theory a better option compared with SPDIF
So if products like Bluesound offer SPDIF only, you might wonder if this will be an improvement.
There is a lot of talk about noise entering the DAC over the USB lines.
A well designed DAC will take care of this, a lesser one will show this noise there where you won't have it, at the analog out.
A couple of examples can be found here:

"Noticed in task manager that the processor is pretty busy while a song is playing"
Is it an audio related process?
I'am asking this because audio is most of all "slow" and puts very little strain on a system.
Only if you do massive resampling e.g. DSD to PCM you will get a substantial CPU.
Drivers: most important is using an audio driver that circumvents the Win audio stack.
WASAPI or ASIO are the drivers your media player should support.
