Marantz SA-11S1 in the house: Comments & Filter Questions

Thanks for your suggestions, I bought a new SA-11S1 which arrived yesterday.

We only have 2 SACD's at the moment, but will definitely be buying more.
My hybrid copy of Madman Across the Water from Elton John, is very good sounding on RB, but was stunning on SACD! I was very impressed.

I put about 3 hrs on it last night. My initial impression is:
Very "large" sound, height, width and depth have all expanded from my previous player.
Bass is stronger but a bit loose.
It's more detailed.
The sound and dynamics are bit "Soft" and laid back, very smooth sounding.
I'm hoping the softness and loose bass will straighten up with additional run in time.

The player's optional settings gave me way too much stuff to play with, but so far I have determined:
Noise Shaper, OFF! It sounded terrible with it on.
Digital out, OFF. Noticeably better with it disabled.
DC Filter, ???? Couldn't make out any difference.

Filters 1, 2, 3, still a puzzle, they do something, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
The only thing that I think I've figured out is on RB CD's is 1 is cleanest, 2 seems to put some weight/thickness on the vocals, and 3 seems to be somewhere between 1 & 2.

Marantz owners, what do you hear on the various filters?

I also discovered that they say not to hook up the balanced & single ended connections at the same time. I had them both connected before I read this, but didn't notice any problem with the sound (balanced to the amp, single ended to a headphone amp).
Anyone know why?
