With DVD-V, computer drives and portable units became available soon after the format was introduced. Today you still cannot listen to a hi-rez (non-hybrid) disc at your computer or take it for a walk. Audiophiles might not care because because hi-rez wouldn't provide much advantage (if any) for computer and portable playback. However, in the bigger picture it is an indication of how accepted and prevalent the formats are. If manufacturers feel that hi-rez is even moderately accepted, they will support it (there are certainly no technical challenges to put it in portables or computer drives). For now, none of them seem to think it is worth the trouble.
