on a macroscopic level most freq. dependent measurement show smooth nonlinear curves, modulated by dB/level, while reading thru the description it seems most sensory features are very discrete, and dont have the numbers -or the scheme- to generate such smooth (continuous) measurements. Also looking at the size of these cilia compared to the protein channels, there must be a factor of 1:100 in size difference (in favor of cilia), that a particular shear deformation and bending of the cilia could recult in coordinated net gating and ion transport seems unlikely unless I missed it in my short read.
It seems both of you also missed or failed to include that there seems to be a redundant freq. tuning or resonance 1) mechanical (and properly modulated by different hair cell species and membrane displacement), and 2) electrochemical that probably reduces crosstalk and provides further tuning.
