You would also not characterize the function on a computer based on the behavior of a single wire.
Neurosurgeons get paid the big bucks to do the Monster Mash on your brain. Only occasionally are they clued in to the broader subtleties of the grey matter.
As a general rule, ENT doctors and neurologists are probably better consultants on the subtlties of hearing and the brain.
