Re: Info on Sony DVP-NC555ES...I have one

Been plugged in for 3 days and has less than 20hrs on it.
Solid, attractive front pannel, nice blue display letters that I can read across the room. When changing disks sounds a bit clunky. When opening drawer it takes awhile to load, after it loads then you press play, it wont accept play command untill it's loaded. However you can load all five (or less) disks and let it go automatic to the next.

I am using it for music only right now. Sounds extremly clear and detailed, bass is well pronounced, no blurred notes. Compared it with an NEC 3300, $500-$600 and the Sony is much more clear with more air and detail....... However.. I am using an Onkyo TX 8511 reciever to power it and to me the upper end is a bit sharp, I also have plaster walls in my room and very reveiling speakers ( Meadowlark Ospreys)
Should get my new amp. (Unison Unico) this week or next and by then the Sony hopefully will be broken in so I can make a more accurate judgement on sound quality.
I was in a nice stereo shop yesterday and was suprised to see that they carried a couple of Surround sound Recievers, Sony STR DA 3000ES and 5000es that look and match the NC555ES player. Tempted to buy the reciever for surround sound but am waiting to hear from someone that may have one, or a review.
good luck
