RE: Naxos great audio? Even their SACDs and DVD-Audios sound poor but the Redbook CDs are worse!

As a generalization I have to agree with Teresa. All of the Naxos SACDs that I looked at before Tower Records closed were recorded at lower sampling rates. None was a true DSD recordings. None used Meitner and/or dCS converters, the gear that, in my opinion, gives the best results. If any outstanding SACDs exist, I would appreciate hearing about them. The one I bought to test the waters was not "great" audio.

However, I am a Naxos buyer, but I buy for interesting repertory and artists. In reality Naxos is the digital successor of the Vox/Turnabout label from LP days. Great audio was the exception and not the rule. Naxos has some excellent artists and excellent performances. The label produces complete works of many composers. The company recently issued a single CD of Brazilian tangos by Ernesto Nazareth. Not great audio or a great performance, but if Naxos produced a complete series, I would jump to buy all the discs. No company has filled the gap.

Every Naxos CD that I have bought for excellent sound after reading a review has turned out to be only mediocre. My last purchases were Ravel's Daphnis & Chloe, Shostakovich's Golden Age, and Martinu Chamber Works. All good performances, but the sound is only so-so. But I'm talking about RBCDs. What about SACDs?
