Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

Actually it *does* prove something, Robert

And what it proves is that some sound engineers are better at conveying the true sense of the music they're mastering/remastering than others. It probably isn't that well known at this forum, but the concensus worldwide appears to be that the Mercury Living Presence CDs issued in the late eighties and early nineties generally ARE superior to the SACD remasters that came out a few years ago. There's been enough written about this very example in HiFi+ to choke a horse.

Beyond that, it's far from irrelevant for someone to be comparing the SAME recording in any format it's been released in (assuming they're from the same engineering session), if only to show the listener where the weakest links in his audio system are.
