RE: Too new to rate

you have a right to your opinion.

i am and continue to be a big Placette fan. i even spoke to Guy about a month ago regarding having him build me a multi-channel pre like yours. i have likely been responsible for selling dozens of Placette's over the years.

no doubt the Placette is excellent; but i have lots of experience with the Placette passive compared to the EMM Labs......as i owned the Placette RVC for 4 years and had the EMM Labs DCC2 (with the exact same preamp in 2 channels that the Switchman has in 6 channels) in my system for 6 months. i compared the 2 many times as preamps. i would give the Placette a slight nod.....but only slight.....and the dart smoked the Placette easily.

i do agree that combining 2 darts would be waaay better than either the Switchman or Placette. but that would only be Quad; you could not listen to a center channel, there would be no LFE channel, and it would cost $23.5k extra. to manage the other two channels would cost another $23.5k and then you would be balancing 3 different pre's.....a bit much.

i will admit that i am new with multi-channel; but what it doesn't do is easy to hear. i love what it does do.

i would make one other point. my room allows for possibly unique 2 channel soundstaging; particularly with vinyl. unless you were to hear that, you might assume a much larger soundstage advantage to multi-channel than exists when 2-channel is optimized.
