I am encouraged by the overall progress, actually. My universal is actually sounding better these days, almost 3 years after purchase and it was a mint used player off of ebay. I keep saying, couldn't be, but it is--in the area of smoothness, lack of grain and depth and width of soundstage.
Even on concert DVD's I recently enjoyed, the sound was not irritating (digital noise).
