Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

I'm all for better sound, but no, I wouldn't want to, nor could I afford...

to get the 'best' format of whatever piece of music I have and I certainly don't choose a single format over another to solely listen to. I do have more than a few Dups, say CD and LP or SACD and CD, but not more than a dozen or two.

As the initial post asked, I would never 'give up on' a format based on sonics, or any other criteria. I've kept my LPs and even some of my cassettes from years ago and pull the latter out for a listen. Actually, I'm doing more listening to my Nak than anything else this past month. Heck, you have a R2R I beleive. Try recording some of your hated CDs to R2R and then give them a listen. I've been taping my CDs onto my RX-505 with nice tape and then listening and it's fun.

Most of my buying over the past year has been CD, with vinyl a close second and I'm back to buying the stuff that I actually LOVE to listen to. SACD was nice because it forced me to branch out a little more than I had, although I had hundreds of JAZZ and CLASSICAL pieces already on LP and CD. I don't regret that

However, I don't have the funds to go out and buy things up willy nilly that I had, maybe 5 years ago so I've got to be a bit more frugal.

I remember being in College back in the hey day of Alternative/Punk/New Wave and going down to Rasputins in Berkeley and taking a $20 bill and buying 14 used LPs because the cover was cool, or I recognized some name in the credits, etc., but I can't afford to do that type of buying now.

I can see if you just have CDs and don't want to get involved with vinyl or HiRez, so that's not a problem for me, but to forego an an already acquired format and the music on it, just because there is something better around the corner, is STUPID imo, especially if you have music only on that ignored format.

Later, Chris
