Tony Faulkner's words resonate with passion for the classical records he engineers, mostly for small labels that are beleagured. Classical sales are dangerously low. With SACD proving a more enjoyable listening experience than CD, those who care about sound quality (and the majority of classical fans do) are turning off to CD--with or without the hype of the audio press. It is in this context that I read Tony's article. He is not concerned with jazz or pop (nor therefore with the overall success of high rez) but with the niche he occupies in classical recordings--and a very admirable niche it is! I hope that hype about hi rez has not contributed to the decline in sales of classical. But underlying Tony's article is simply this: he wants the sales to be healthy and he wants us to enjoy his work no matter what format it's on.
It should also be pointed out that there are now better tools for DSD than 1st generation Genex and SCSI drives.
