Many thanks for your informative post. I have one of the Marantz players that uses the KHM230AAA. Recently I got a spare unit for my player. I eventually got curious and decided to install it. And, as in your first instance, the disc didn't spin. I thought that it was some kind of firmware issue and when I would want to install the transport that I'd just have to send the player in to Marantz.
Ah, but now there is the SOLDER BLOB. I just checked my new unit, and sure enough, it has the big SOLDER BLOB, as in your picture.
So, did all you do is just desolder the blob? That seems like about a 2 second job at most, once it's ready to be de-soldered. Is that correct?
