Well, I won't argue with what you heard. To me the difference was big. I found the SACD layer much more "live" and exciting. I think we are just talking about a difference in perspective. One person's big deal is another person's "eh."

I will give you this though, as much as I thought the difference was a big one, I am sure that to the average consumer the difference would be negligible (either due to inferior equipment, or because they just don't care).

Also, as I mentioned in my previous post I think that SACD really shines over the length of an album more than in quick back-and-forth comparisons. It is the overall gains in listenability that are really important to me, as opposed to small detail oriented differences like the sound of fingers on strings.

In the end I don't think improved sound quality (or even multichannel) is what will make SACD a success. The music industry desperately wants a secure digital format, and SACD provides it. If I get better sound out of the deal, I am a happy camper.
