if either you SACD player or Turntable break down you still have music to listen to. This is really important to me, when my SACD player went in the shop, I could only take it 3 days of TV watching and called up Elusive disc and ordered a turntable, good thing I did as my 9000ES was out of commission for over three months, local shop had it for 2 months, had to send it twice to the Sony Repair center. If DVD-Audio had been a little better (I tried the 1,200 retail Toshiba 9200 for 5 months and DVD-A is a total waste of time and energy). LP was an excellent choice.Selections (Major Label LPs): Most new currently inprint (5,000+ titles) major label LPs are Rap and Hip-Hop and Alternative music, though there is some Jazz and Rock, there is ZERO new Classical on LP. But there are lots of used Major label LPs to be had for as low as 25 cents each and a lot of it is classical, about a million (1,000,000) or so out of print major label LPs.
Selections (Audiophile LPs): Most Audiophile LPs (1,500+ in print and another 1,500 or so out of print) are reissues of Classical recordings from the Golden Age (RCA Living Stereo, Mercury Living Presence, Decca, EMI, Vanguard and Everest) and mostly Baby Boomer Rock (mostly 1970s rock) but some 1960's and 1980's too, and LOTS and LOTS of Jazz mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. The remainder are NEW MOSTLY Jazz and Blues releases from folks like Analogue Productions Originals and Groove Note, etc.
Selections (SACD) At first mostly Classical and Jazz, now there is lots of Rock, too.
If you have both formats you should be able to find nearly any recording you are interested in.
Happy listening,
Teresa
