Only MCH makes a leapfrog improvement over top quality 16/44.1 CDs for 99.9% of consumers. Unfortunately, many people can't make a major difference between a "good sounding CD" (whatever that means), played with the latest Dolby Prologic II, Circle Surround II, etc., and a good discrete multichannel version of the same material. Well, none that justifies spending thousands of dollars on hardware or software.
There's some mileage in what DUI is saying. (Although I suspect he's just depressed being without his receiver for so long :)
