The jury may still be out, it doesn't sound like it is a product that performed according to its reputation or build quality.
I am sure the listening session was completely sincere by all involved, but probably more extended listening is warranted, especially with a product in this league. Setting up complicated gear and doing a single listening session may not be giving it a fair shake, even with the experienced audiophiles involved.
Habituated listening can be quite obstructive when listening to new components. Some of my favorite components required quite a bit of listening until I got past the "training" of my previous stuff so that I could hear the virtues of the new.
