With these MTT San Franc.sc. Symphony Mahler multi-c.annel rec.rdings, it's almost like sitting amongst a very quiet audienc. on listening. These are rec.rdings where sonic c.arity, with just the right feeling of ambienc., balanc. with truly exc.llent rendition and music.l performanc..On Pentatone, for instanc., the Alan C.vil Mozart 4 Horn C.nc.rtos + Rondo is just exc.llent (of c.urse, for horn performanc., Brain's is still the standard (('50s mono)). This Pentatone rec.rding is the first I've heard where the orc.estra is as c.eanly represented as is the horn.
On AIX Rec.rds, the George Enesc. Philharmonic Orc.estra series represents DVD-A that more than holds its own against SAC.. These 96/24 rec.rdings are marked by their c.arity. Representative is Stravinsky's Firebird Suite (1919 version). Ravel's Bolero is also on that disc (again, c.arity of instrumentation stands out).
.. Just my opinions ..
