hi steve,i took a look at your system and you are being way too modest. your sources are completly first-rate, and the Proac 2.5s are excellent. i have not heard the Chord gear but i know it is highly regarded. it would be very expensive to improve what you have.
yes, the Helikon is one of those over-achievers that are capable of great sound if fed properly. it does kinda shake you a little when a vinyl setup comes together......there is just so much going on in those grooves to hear. i was seriously considering the Helikon when i stumbled across the Insider Gold, slightly used, for $1250. i still can't believe my good luck. i suspect the owner thought it was too hot for his system.....i think he ended up with an Audio Note Kondo, a cool $15k retail.
i also believed my previous system was close to "the ultimate". then i made the mistake of demoing some other ss amps, which led me to demo some tube amps, which led me to consider other, easier to drive speakers. i had dreamed about the Kharma Exquisite speakers for over a year as they were the one "super speaker" that might work in my narrow room, but it had been only a dream. after getting tube amp fever i more seriously looked into the Kharma and found them to be "tube friendly". then a chance e-mail exchange with another inmate connected me with a Kharma dealer and i worked out something i could live with (after considerable discussion with the wife) and bought the Kharmas.
during the 5 month wait for the Kharmas to be built and delivered i continued looking at tube amps and came to prefer OTLs as the most resolving and natural of all amps. i seriously considered the Atmasphere, but ultimately preferred the Tenor. and the Tenor and Kharma mate gloriously, the best sound i have ever heard.
btw, i bought the Kharmas without ever seeing or hearing any Kharma speaker.....and it is the single most impressive audio item i have yet experienced (someday i would love to hear the Rockport Sirrus III tt, which i would expect to be even better).
