My most recent comparisons go like this. On a friend's system I've cued up the 45 of Kind of Blue and A/B'ed it with the SACD version. Likewise with the 33 of Stardust. I actually preferred the vinyl of KoB but my friend had no preference--and we both had no preference on Stardust. I know what you mean about it coming alive--I also heard a little more warmth and realism from vinyl in the midrange. But SACD has slight advantages on top and on bottom in terms of precision. There are differences, so maybe the idea that digital has "caught up" only applies to my enjoyment. Except that SACD is the highest quality digital we are likely to get for a long time. And this goes back to what I said about converting music to 1's and 0's. Vinyl will always have that "head start" no matter what the sampling.
