..I am also using the King Cobra v2 powercord, which is feeding my SCD-XA777ES. The weight does tends to pull the player off-centre of the ball bearings/cups of the Symposium Rollerblocks when the player is placed directly on them. In that regard, placing a platform in between helps to alleviate this problem. I find that I don't have to hold up the powercord with any stickytape.Your observation of the sound quality comparison between Vinyl and SACD intrigues me. 2 weeks ago, I had a chance to chat with Joe Harley when he came over to Singapore for Jacintha's concert. He said that DSD, more than any other formats, mirrors exactly what's coming from the mic feeds, but some how, after storage and transfer, something happens that changes the sound somewhat in the AIT tape form. The Telarc people are supposed to have heard and came to the same conclusion. This is being checked upon right now, he added. Hopefully, they can resolve this problem soon.
IMHO, the optical disc/laser data retrival technique can be easily compromised by transport instability, powersupply fluctuation and optical disc's internal light reflections. The sooner we move to solid state storage, the better. On every discs that I applied the green pen treatment so far, it has always lead to a smoother playback, more ambient retrival, more solid imaging and quieter background. That's not to say vinyl is better, or worse. I do not yet have a chance to hear a properly set-up vinyl system, with same recordings. I am sure you will agree with me, both digital and vinyl have their own type of compromises, but probably to our ears, analog distortions are of the more friendly type.
BTW, that concert was an awesome experience and Jacintha gave a top-flight virtuoso performance, backed by the infectious and dynamic Bill Cunliffe Trio. Having Harley here to oversee the sound probably ensured the close-to-studio-quality sound. I wished I had know earlier that he'll be there. I would have like him to autograph on my copy of Positive Feedback with him on the front cover.
Cheers
