i can't speak for Jennifer other than what she said when she was in my room, along with 2 other inmates and myself. we played music for almost 5 hours, about 1/3rd each cd, sacd, and vinyl. i certainly can't specifically quote her, but the overwhelming consensus was that vinyl totally dominated sacd, which, in turn dominated cd.one specific listening event was telling. Jennifer was in the "sweet spot". i cued up the cd, sacd, and 45 rpm vinyl of Brubeck's "Take 5". without telling anyone i started with the cd, comments were that it must be the sacd it sounded so good. i got about 2/3rds of the way thru the drum solo and cut to the beginning of the sacd track; "oh my god!" everyone said "sacd kills the cd". more open, much more dynamic, just more real in every way. we were going warp 9....really rock'n. then at the same place i started the vinyl. Jennifer threw up her hands, laid back in the chair and just said WOW! WOW! the music just came alive. we listenned to the end of the cut and then took a break. we all just looked at each other and shook our heads....."digital has a long way to go" we all agreed.
while that was the most colorful instance of direct comparison there were many others. this is not to say that we didn't absolutlely love the sacd we listened to....it was great. but the vinyl was way better.
i know that "Time Out" is not the best sacd for comparison to vinyl but it is one of the better Sonys. and i have heard others on this forum say they prefer the sacd of this to the vinyl. we listened to quite a few DSD mastered sacds but the naturalness, dynamics, and even detail fell short of the vinyl we played.
i don't see any problem with Jennifer preferring DSD mastering to analog tape but preferring the actual execution of good vinyl verses the current sacd performance on a good system. but that would be for her to respond to, not me. i would add that i am still as hooked on sacd as i always was and i believe so is Jennifer as far as i know.
