"Better" is tough to qualify or define...

...since tastes can vary dramatically in audio.

(Other things, too! "Sure, there is nothing so surprising as other people's marriages." --Stephen Maturin to his good friend, Jack Aubrey)

That said, I think that no one will ever be able to get my vinyl/turntable away from me...not until the Lord calls me home!

*That* said, I think (and will say yet again) that pure DSD recordings, mastered through the Meitner A/D gear, is extraordinary. The only thing that is anywhere near it in my experience is 30 ips 1" half-track analog...not exactly a feasible format for consumers!

I already know audio engineers (e.g., Joe Harley) who have abandoned their beloved 30ips rigs in favor of DSD, using the analog only for backup on split-feed. Good friends like PF's Mike Pappas have been producing stunning jazz recordings in pure DSD that are nothing less than breath-taking to hear. (Those of you who were at VSAC and visited the Wavestream/Cardas/Von Schweikert room got to hear "the future"! ;-) )

Remember that DSD is in its INFANCY. Given what we've seen over the past two years...and the progress that's been made in areas like modding/hotrodding our players, isolation platforms, cabling, speaker design (e.g., the new Linn Komri Reference loudspeakers), power cables, line conditioning, and so on...I can only imagine where we might be in another 2-3 years.

And that's good news for us all.
