Copy Protection - A test

Charlie - just to illustrate what is possible now with MQA, here is a test done with a 2L download file:

https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/30381-mqa-is-vaporware/?do=findComment&comment=716443

It would appear that MQA files are freely copiable and also transformable into other compatible container formats other than FLAC.

I also gather from @mansr's comments in that forum that the Ultimaco encryption of the MQA metadata in 2L files is not yet implemented. He has not encountered it. But, even if it were, it would not make any difference that I can see in normal use.

So, I gather that MQA would not restrict a user from making useable backup copies of MQA downloads for his own use. The DRM encryption, once implemented on any future downloads might, however, prevent MQA playback on another system, like if you gave a copy of the file to a friend or put it up on a pirate website.

Meanwhile, the 44/48k "core" of the files would still seem to be playable anywhere, such as on a non-MQA mobile device, in a car, etc.

DRM like this may be a pain for some, but it would not appear to be a problem for a normal user who does not illegally share his files. You and others may have a problem with this, but I don't.
