Yes I agree. However when I posted on this subject last year or the year before (I cannot find my posting in the archives) I got a response from Cookie Marenco of Blue Coast Records pointing out the cost of maintaining bandwidth etc.
I remain unconvinced considering the vast disparity of prices offered for the same repertoire in the same format from vendor to vendor.
Frankly I think it is currently all priced at whatever they vendor thinks they can get away with. One thing that is certain is that there is no clear model of profitable download pricing and thus nothing for anyone to follow. Currently we know that downloading has been supplanted to a great extent by streaming where a similar pricing obscurity exists. All that we know about the economics of streaming so far is that nobody has made a bean.
