I said it once and I'll say it again.......

many audio hobbyists seem to ascribe to the notion that just because they have a nice stereo and have been listening to music for a century, that they're actually astute listeners.

A lot of us here have played 'sports' growing up and maybe even in high school/college, but how many of us can walk out onto a diamond and hit a major league fastball?

I think that I've listened to a lot of nice gear over the past five years and I've even owned some, but I don't think that my listening skills are as well honed as some of my friends. I mean, maybe they're talking a bunch of crap, but they talk a good game and a lot of times I'm just dumbfounded by what they say that they're hearing.

Astute listening, IMO, is mostly a talent and while some of it can be taught, some have ultimately have it and some don't.
