For many years I used a portable system- Sony diskman, Headroom amp, and Sennheiser HD600s. It was cool.
As the ipod took over, I kept looking into digital players, but I never liked the apple/itunes system, and nothing else really appealed.
When I got an android tablet, I started using that as a music source instead of the diskman, and the digital option started to take over.
So when I saw the AK100 at the audio show in Newport Beach, I was intrigued. A bit later, after reading some great reviews, I ordered it. Bottom line- I could plug the HD600s straight in with no amp and the sound quality was superb and the storage (96 Gbytes) gives me a whole library of losseless music fitting in a shirt pocket.
So that was great. But Audeze chopped 20% off their LCD2 headphones for Black Friday and I could not resist.
So now I'm running them straight from the AK100 (which by the way, since the last software upgrade, plays DSD files) and I've come a long way from my old diskman system.
Soon I will get a headphone amp, but it's no emergency. Boy, this portable stuff has gotten good.
