RE: there are hifi forums

My first real stereo just out of college included a Sansui 8080DB and a pair of JBL L100's.

In the early 1980's I had a next-door neighbor who had a 9090DB. He was a space shuttle repairman. At least that's what he called himself as he worked for McDonnel Douglas on the Shuttle program. Not long after getting friendly with him, he took a job in Saudi Arabia. Rather than store or ship all his belongings, he opted to sell nearly everything he owned. I snagged his 9090DB for a song and sold my 8080DB to a co-worker.

Both units sounded really good and weighed a ton. Kept that 9090 for six or seven more years before I replaced the system with Counterpoint separates and a pair of Vandys. Don't recall what became of the Sansui, but I sold those L100's to another co-worker for $200. I now wish I'd just hung on to them, but the hassle of moving/storing would've been a PITA. The Counterpoint and Vandersteen stuff sounded way better.
