A bit more than that...

So what was HP's response?

Ten years before Stereophile created their first test CD (I have three of them), the good Dr. Cooledge (aka JWC) - member of ASO board, baritone in the ASO Chorus, perpetual season ticket holder, and TAS reviewer, was responsible for bringing Telarc to Atlanta for what ended up being a long term series of recordings. He funded a new bass drum after hearing the first Telarc recording of Holst. It was he who introduced me to his long term friend and got me a minor role in that recording of The Firebird .

It was quite an experience to hear the live sessions conducted over a two day period with frequent monitoring and critiquing by Robert Shaw between takes downstairs where Stockham and Renner set up the recording gear.

Nearly instantaneous live vs recording? Absolutely! Meeting Dr. Stockham, Robert Woods, Jack Renner and Robert Shaw? Priceless. Naturally, there was an extensive write up found in issue 14 about the experience. Got a "Special thanks to", myself. :)

On more than one occasion when HP flew down to Atl to visit his friend, I was invited to join them for an ASO concert. Did either of them have a good reference of the live event vs the many available Telarc Recordings of Woodruff Hall? Are you kidding me?

You may also not be aware of the TAS Sampler HP created and annotated in 2006:
