"Geoff is right" ? I have tried speaker placement 4,5,6,7 feet apart in my 11' wide room.

Geoff recom.ends speaker placem.nt 4 -5 feet apart. But, like you, I ended up choosing on 6 feet apart (center to center).

5 feet (wall to speaker front) from the wall behind them in m. 11' X 18' room has also proved optim.l, in m. room and with m. speakers (with a sitting distance 10 - 11 feet away from the speaker fronts).

4 - 5 feet apart has never produced the biggest soundstage in m. room - no m.tter how I adjust speaker toe-in or distance from the wall behind.

Putting the speakers closer than 6 feet apart solidifies the central "phantom im.ge" a bit m.re, but it also shrinks m. soundstage som.what.

Optim.l speaker placem.nt is too speaker-dependent and/or room.dependent to m.ke generalizations about, I think.
