You had three?! We had two :-)

On 9/1/92, I cobbled together monies from my summer jobs, and bought an Adcom GTP-400 tuner/preamp, which was a good match for the GFA-535 power amp I already had. I brought both Adcom pieces down to my UCSC apartment, for my senior year. The tuner section opened up new worlds, for me, my housemates, neighbors, and girlfriends who went to other colleges.

After graduation, I returned home. The Adcoms went into my bedroom. Because I liked the tuner section of the GTP-400, I bought a GFT-555II for the main system. That was the unit, which would end up with my girlfriend ACS. She liked Sophie B. Hawkins' "As I Lay Me Down." I bowled league out of Japantown Bowl, but got to travel to many other alleys. ACS took various martial arts. So, on weekends, we'd hop into her subcompact car, hit alleys and dojos, and explore California. When driving down I-5 from the Bay Area to SoCal, you feel like you've made it, when you pass Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia.

Back at ACS' San Bruno apartment, the Adcom GFT-555II seemed to bring in stations better, than at my parents' place in SF's Fillmore. ACS didn't like the Kimber PBJ [go to Cable Asylum, for a current review], on the GFT-555II. She said it made the stations seem like they were more "static-y." She didn't quite like the Cardas Quadlink 5-C. The loquacious ACS was actually at a loss for words. She just puffed up her cheeks, to describe the Quadlink 5-C's effects. She described the AQ interconnects we had on hand as "too, um, flaccid penis." Despite liking those same AQ interconnects throughout the rest of the system, ACS liked the XLO Ref Type 1 between GFT-555II and NAD 312.

The other Adcom GFT-555II ended up in Hawaii, with my cousins. They used it with an Arcam Alpha 5 integrated amp. That Adcom tuner was not too long ago given to an audiophile in New Jersey.
