During the Spring 1995 semester, my girlfriend ACS was a senior a UC Berkeley. While still in school, she secured an apartment across the Bay, and lined up a high-paying job at Genentech.
I had acquired a CAL Delta CD transport, to mate with a Theta Cobalt 307. I then gave my old NAD 5000 CD player to ACS.
After ACS graduated, we took a trip to Hawaii. My uncle still had a decade-old NAD receiver. ACS liked its big buttons, which made it easy to use. When listening to Nevermore's "Garden Of Gray," ACS thought the NAD didn't shrink the music as other mass-market receivers.
Eventually, ACS bought an affordable NAD 312 integrated amp, paired it with a gloss-black NHT SuperZero. She used my old AudioQuest jumpers, Quartz, and Type 4. We added a stereo TV, hi-fi stereo VCR, and my Adcom GFT-555II tuner.
In a strange way, it feels comforting and reassuring, that, during the same time, you were acquiring an NAD receiver. As for the NAD 312, it was as you'd expect for a budget integrated amp: no great shakes. But it was inoffensive, and let us go on to other things, like bowling, and learning how to skate.
