I was never into the "visuals" or "themes" with audio systems as much as performance concepts...... Could be why I haven't changed my gear all that much over the past 15 years..... Although I do rotate amplifiers and digital sources on several systems, just to take in "varying presentations" of the music/recording.
I've always thought going integrated was a good idea if you're not overly finicky about the sound or presentation...... In which the urge to try a new component in the chain is constantly biting at you..... (I used to be this way with gear, but in recent time, only tubes, cables, and tweaks.) If you don't have the urge to "tweak" the sound, it's a good way to go. It's also cleaner, if "visuals" do matter..... Not to mention fewer cables in the chain and less "cable mess" overall.
People always tell me they do things differently..... From using digital room correction to specific acoustic treatments to server-based playback to decoupling speakers to raising cables off the floor..... I tell them, "whatever works"..... A lot of these things I tried but didn't work for me, but it might work for the next person. (And vice-versa.)
