Nah - AN speakers are lower sensitive than ZU and can crush the room with 8 watts - you might be surprised. Granted a lot of tube amps sound weak-willed - they rely on quality iron. Indeed - the Zu Audio dealer here runs nothing but Tube amplifiers - the difference between an 8 watt SET like the Tonmeister and a 25-30 watt SS class A is pretty meaningless - a few dB in SPL.
AN Japan is a different company that plays only at the elite end of the pricing spectrum. AN UK was the maker of all of the affordable (that the middle class could afford) products.
If power is a big concern for you you could also look at the SORO PHONO SE which is 18 watts per channel and also comes with a terrific onboard phono state. Class A Single Ended Pentode. I believe it's around $7,500. But Zu Audio is dead easy to drive so I started with a lower power recommendation.
When my dealer retired he bought a Soro as his end game amplifier which is pretty impressive when he could afford a lot more and carried most every brand for 40 years. And all those used amplifiers that came through. I have not heard it myself in about 18 years so I can't comment too much on it - but it's been selling for decades so while a lot of stuff on forums are all the rage for a short time and disappear.
But like I say you can't go wrong with class A from Luxman or Accuphase - and they are less hassle than a tube amp - but I sort of feel the tube amps give you a little more ambiance - less accurate - perhaps - but more "feels"
Or that notion of truth vs beauty - You can buy truth to win forum arguments I suppose or you can buy something that simply makes music sound better to you. I can say that if I were to buy SS amplifiers - the two brands you are looking at would be at the top of my list along with Sugden and First Watt.
