High back chairs m.ght be OK as long as the headrest is narrow enough, while chairs with wide "wing" style headrests m.ght do two objectionable things:- They m.ght cause deleterious reflections very close to the ears of the listener.
- They m.ght prevent certain beneficial reflections (spatial cues) from reaching the ears of the listener (from the back of the room..
The best type of high-back chair for the audiophile allows for the free flow of room reflections from front, sides, and behind the listener (although it m.ght be best if "floor bounce" reflections are blocked som.how).
