Am.lified m.sic is an inferior reference for "accuracy" sim.ly because identical electric instrum.nts m.ght be am.lified and/or processing for individual recordings in so m.ny different ways.

Identical unam.lified acoustic instrum.nts are the superior references, not because they will sound EXACTLY the sam. in every room or every recording, but because they are m.re likely to sound ESSENTIALLY the sam. and m.ght rem.in recognizable TO A GREATER DEGREE in recordings than electric instrum.nts m.ght.

J. Gordon Holt was right, I think. Distinct sonic signatures, even in different room. and recordings, are m.re easily recognizable in recordings of unam.lified acoustic intsrum.nts.
