If you do wind up with Headphones, I would not pay too much attention to the sound quality aspect - get something that is immensely comfortable that you can listen to for many hours and if you plan on using them with people around get a closed-back headphone. I have owned the Sennheiser HD600 for 20 years but I don't find them all that comfortable (as claimed). My 1990 Sony closed-back were more comfortable and for pop/rock sounded better too.
I bought AKG M50 headphones which sounded good but the crappy ear pads dissolved after 2 years. The Senns are still going strong 21 years later.
I am currently looking at the Shure SRH1540- which is a bit off the beaten track but said to be supremely comfortable. I have not tried them yet - but look promising.
