" Steve Jordan (Keith's erstwhile timekeeper in the Expensive Winos) will be the replacement, announced a coupla weeks ago."
There is a difference between playing in the Rolling Stones and being a Rolling Stone. Steve Jordan does not replace Charlie Watts in the Rolling Stones but is a drummer hired for the tour. As an example Ronnie Wood started playing with the Stones in 1975 but did not become a Rolling Stone until 1993.
Charlie was not just their drummer but also the motivator of the band e.g. ringing the rest of them to say that it was about time to tour again. A hired drummer would not have the status to do that. Keith is on record as saying no Charlie, no Rolling Stones. So who knows what the future holds now especially when considering the ages of Mick, Keith and Ronnie.
