Yep - I didn't even know these things existed so thanks for the post. I do feel Rocket_Powered's pain. I've done the same thing. Twice. Getting that broken guide key out of the socket without desoldering the socket wasn't fun. I also re-used the damaged tube by marking the correct position on a piece of tape which was fine until one day, in a moment of inattention and carelessness I inserted the tube incorrectly and powered up the amp.
There was one positive thing that came out of that experience. I had to improve my soldering skills. One of the resistors looked like I'd applied a blowtorch to it.
