Either a feature in the DAC, or you could put something like the Schiit Sys after the DAC and before amp.
If all you have are digital sources there's not really much (if any) need for the expense of a preamp. Most, if not all, modern digital sources have output voltages capable of directly driving an amp. All you need is a way to control the volume. That could be in the DAC, with a passive device, or even an amp with a volume control.
Despite the goofy name, Schitt makes very good, even excellent, bang for the buck gear. Although there's several different ways you could play this.
