RE: DAC in my 2 channel question

This question is more complex, than it seems on the surface.
What budget are you operating on ??
The transport is extremely important. What method of digital transfer do you have options for ? (I2S,AES-EBU,S-Pdif,HDMI).
Memory player or standard CD player? My results favor the memory players.
If the expenditure is fairly small, you might be able to improve the CD sound with a better player.
The problem is that you may add a DAC,but you still need an excellent digital cable, power cord and what not.
They say that "there is many a slip, between the cup and the lip".
Jitter in the source will be a distortion. It will be transferred to the DAC.While putting in a better DAC sounds like a good idea, there are more interface problems to solve.Usually more than most want to tackle.
Everyone appreciates tubes in their system, but IMO it is just an extra variable to consider.
Evaluate the DACs that have a return /audition policy.Get your feet wet.
Experience is the best teacher.
Maybe a Gamut CD 3 ?
