and it's ground loop/cheater plug related.
I have tubed monobloc amps hooked up to a Running Spring Audio Maxim power conditioner. Only the monos are hooked up to the RSA unit.
I have a huge power cord that goes from the RSA to the outlet. I use A+ power cords from the RSA to the amps.
When I attached the cheater plug to the end of the power cable going from the RSA to the outlet, I get hum through the amp. If I connect the amp directly to the wall bypassing the RSA, I get lots of hum. If I attach the cheater plug to the end of the power cord for the amp and plug directly into the wall I still get hum (but not as much as without the cheater plug). If I directly connect the RSA to the wall and use a cheater plug at the end of the power cords that connect the amp to the RSA unit, silence. Zero hum.
For the life of me I can't figure out why this is. Any ideas?
Thank you, and stay safe, and Happy Holidays!
