No way!

In the late-80s, my friends and I saw Death Angel at The Stone, up on Broadway & Montgomery. In the early-90s, Mark Osegueda left, and the remaining members carried on as The O. We saw The O at One Step Beyond, in Santa Clara.

You have to understand that my female friends could be kinda wussy [above, Sara couldn't bear to watch us getting our ass kicked in sports, so she had to shed the cardinal red Lowell sweatshirt, and join us. I found it interesting that almost all girls would outright say NO to us. But if lite rock or a power ballad were playing, you could find someone like Sara drifting towards you. If she were not your type, you could always say no. But at least this type of girl was a possibility], but were academically smart. They didn't smoke or drink, so when we did go to concerts, we had to use the 2-drink minimum on soft drinks (we were not of legal drinking age, so our hand was stamped, as we entered the venue). A lot of them had glasses, so they were reluctant to join mosh pits, even though they certainly felt the urge. And you know what? If you started out protective of them, the script was soon flipped. The girls had a habit of coming up beside you, and hooking your arm. By having a nerd girl by your side, you felt protected!

I think it was during the Spring 1988 semester, a bunch of us went to The Stone (Vicious Rumors were among the myriad acts), and my friend Jane, who had a 4.0+ GPA, did not get home in the Outer Mission, until 2:00a. Moreover, Jane reeked of all that cigarette smoke. Her mom grounded Jane for a couple of weeks, made her come home immediately after school, didn't let her go out.

Jane and the other girls would ask you that, if heavy metal, for example, is a staple, what sonic parameters within heavy metal are important to you? For me, if a product does not get the snap and pop of drums right, NEXT! If a product rolls off or neuters the treble, we lose interest, and become annoyed. NEXT! If a product doesn't capture the buzz, bite, and cutting of electric guitar, NEXT!
