Unfortunately tubes wearing out from hours of use is a function of design. It isn't necessary. A few companies have been known for short tube life spans. Most are medium. But there are designs that last 'almost' forever. David Berning, an often lauded designer, quotes tube life of 10,000 hours and he is a conservative designer. I do know from friends who were there that the prototype of his 1st, the BA150, was turned on in 1972 and finally turned off in 1977 with no measureable tube wear.
