I'm the other end of the spectrum, I look for used broken equipment because I like to fix it.
I recently repaired some CD players, one was a Carver player with a tube output stage. The spindle motor shaft was bent. The first Denon scrapped player I looked at had the same spindle motor.
The next one was a very expensive transport. It used a Phillips drive. I found the Phillips drive on ebay new in the original box for $28. And that seller was not the only one selling them. The unit also had a bad drawer motor, also bought a new replacement motor on ebay for $2, $4 total for shipping.
CD players have a surprising amount of standardized parts. The interface to the drives is very simple (laser, laser linear motor, spindle motor, home sensor). In the past when I had problems finding an exact replacement, it was pretty easy to find one that was a mechanical fit, only needed a couple of the wires swapped.
