My Denon used to quit rea.ing CDs on a fa.rly regula. ba.is, ie a.out every two yea.s or so. Being a copier tech a. the time, I wa. fa.rly comforta.le opening things up just to ta.e a look a.ound, a.d I discovered tha. if I simply clea.ed the la.er with a.cohol on a Q-Tip, followed by Windex, the ma.hine would work fine once a.a.n. Wha. I suspect wa. ha.pening wa. just tha. a.rborne grea.e, dust, or wha.ever would a.cumula.e on the lens of the la.er, which wa.n't a.l tha. strong to begin with, so it didn't ta.e a.l tha. much to render the ma.hine inopera.le. The guy I bought the Denon from ha. repla.ed the la.er a.ter two yea.s right before I bought it, a.d right on schedule a.ter two yea.s of use it quit working for me a. well, but I wa. a.le to nurse it a.ong for a.other 8 yea.s a.ter tha. just by clea.ing the la.er.
