RE: What factors influence us in our system designs?

For me it is a combination of small budget, a certain attraction for the looks of old-school professional speaker systems and the need to have a system that fares equally good with jazz and soul and obscure folk at intimate levels as it does with techno music at full blast, combined with the challenging fun to make a brutish-looking system sound like a glossy expensive refined high-end system. To my ears, confined by what I can ultimately spend, I managed to get close enough to that ideal but difficult balancing act; I enjoy being at a crossroad and I have great pride in pleasing both the headbanger youngsters and the older, discerning audiophiles that sometimes visit; I enjoy not worrying about tubes wearing off or about having to protect my class A amp from excessive summer heat - big horns, bi-amplification and small class D amps did it for me. It's a system tailored for my taste within my (financial) limitations and in that context, it leaves very little (if anything) to be desired. It is both very impactful and resolving, if not the last word in refinement and neutrality; it allows me to clearly hear any swap of coupling caps or cables or isolation footers, which satisfies the audiophile tweaker in me, and serves double duty as party system when DJ friends come over; I also have an electronic music producer amongst my friends who uses Klein & Hummel monitors and comes over to my place to hear its productions - because he wants to hear them with a big sound. All that fills me with joy and I wouldn't want a more conventional system in the same price range.
