That has not been my experience at all. Since CL has started I have done hundreds of successful transactions using the same method. I take many good photos, price it below eBay, provide a detailed description that includes the fact that I am not interested in offers or trades and deal thru the CL email system only, no phone or text. I also require a day and time for them to come to my garage before I give them the address, Depending on what item it is, sometimes I price above eBay. The 1st rule of a successful sale is finding a person that expresses interest, price is secondary and I am never in a hurry to sell.
