RE: Why not HDCD player?

I've had my RCD-1072 for probably 14 years or so. About a year ago, I had it serviced which consisted of cleaning out the accumulated dust, lubing the appropriate moving parts, and a new belt. The service made a big improvement in the sound quality. IIRC, it set me back about $160 but I'm OK with that. There are no old fashioned, B&M stereo shops that I know of in the KC area where one can leave a deposit and take a player home to audition. Rather than taking a chance on buying something that has mechanical assemblies online, the service did turn out to be a reasonable choice. Besides, it still has a calendar to indicate number of tracks, tracks programmed, and every now and then I see the HDCD lamp light up on discs that don't have the HDCD logo on the case.

One of these days, I'll have to give it up but for right now in my 12'L x 10'W x8'H room, no disc is more than 5' away from my chair.
