yeah, basically, but that term came later... :)

at least in hifi.

So, perusal of good old www.americanradiohistory.com turned up at least a little more info on the AVID Comparator, as used by Gordon Miller in MD (at least). I presume this is the same AVID that made pretty good loudspeakers in those days... I do NOT know if this was the same AVID that later went on to be a big name in video production. The speaker company, if memory serves, was based in Rhode Island (or somewhere in New England). The video company was located in Andover, MA (used to drive by it every day on my way to work!).
